Recently, in order to help magnify our outreach efforts surrounding the Culture at Work initiative, UCP’s Recognition Committee adopted the Moose as our “Culture Mascot.“ (Actually, we adopted and named two moose: Maggie and Monty. But that’s another story for another time.)

“Why a Mascot?” you might ask. Actually, it’s because of UCP staff! The UCP Recognition Committee was looking for something tangible the staff could rally around as part of the Culture at Work initiative. It ends up that many of the staff became enamored when a Moose first appeared at UCP’s Utley Drive Headquarters as part of a decorating contest. The staff took turns moving the Moose from location to location around the building… and the UCP Culture Mascot was born.

“But why a Moose?” Because in many ways, their character and attributes mirror those of the staff. The Moose is widely seen as a study in contrasts. They are at once gentle… and strong. Moose are mostly passive and peaceful creatures… unless and until they are called upon to protect their own. Then they show their true passion. They are sometimes seen as awkward and unsure; other times confident, even courageous. They know when to be kind… and when to be bold.

The Moose (both of them!) have captured our hearts and our imaginations. And we hope they will yours too.

Hope with Maggie Moose
Maggie and UCP Volunteer Hope celebrated Lincoln’s birthday together.

In an effort to engage the immediate UCP family, UCP sent all staff, Board, and Committee members their own personal “Flat Moose” and asked them to share images with the Maggie or Monty as they go about their day. Perhaps you’ve already seen some posts and wondered what it was all about. We’d like for you to join in the fun as well: Follow the Moose (and UCP!) on social media… (look for ucpcentralpa; hashtag #ucpmoose)
