UCP was thrilled to receive word that our own Abigail Celesky was selected as the Central Region Direct Support Professional of the Year in the 2021 PAR “We Are Worth It” Awards! Abby was recognized for her ability to continue to provide home and community supports at a time when she was unable to meet with individuals in their homes or take them out into the community.

Her nomination, in part, reads “During a period of great uncertainty over the past year, Abby has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, extraordinary, innovative support, and remarkable resilience. She has faced each new challenge with grace and determination, while continuing to be a fierce advocate for every individual she supports. Abby took the lead in transitioning UCP’s in-person activities to Zoom sessions that engaged and encouraged participants. She set up the sessions, prepped activities, and personally delivered all materials needed to each individual’s home. Abby was creative in introducing science projects, arts and crafts, online fitness sessions, and virtual field trips (such as a San Diego Zoo livestream). She created each session with the individuals’ various likes and needs in mind and made sure that all had opportunities to be involved. Families have shared how much their sons and daughters look forward to these sessions and have been amazed at how engaged they are. They marvel at the laughter, and the cries of ‘Can we do it again?’ or ‘That was so cool!’ emanating from the Zoom chats.”
