At the heart of the recent UCP Staff Retreat was the basic premise that UCP is committed—individually and collectively—to making a meaningful difference in the lives of each person or family we support.

In her opening remarks, CEO Janeen Latin expressed her gratitude “for the heart you bring to this work every day—for your compassion, your creativity, your persistence, and your belief in the potential of every person we serve.” Current UCP Board Chair David Burns exhorted staff to “keep doing what you’re doing… and filling the hole with love.” From each of the Mission Moments’ speakers (see Mission Moment article and photos below) to the breakout session leaders, the audience was reminded of the incredible impact they make in the lives of others each day.

Game time (featuring UCP Kahoot!) focused on the many ways that UCP effects positive growth and change in the everyday lives of thousands of people across Central PA each year. The retreat also featured several UCP participant vendors who have been empowered to create and craft (and sell their wares) as a result of the services and supports received from UCP.

A TIME TO REFLECT, REFUEL, REENERGIZE, AND RECOMMIT

Finally, it was a day for staff across all our divisions to reflect on why they do what they do, to learn the same about their peers, and to consider the power of their own stories. Janeen urged all in attendance to “make storytelling a regular part of our (UCP) culture—not just for recognition, but to build community, deepen our impact, and amplify the voices of those we walk alongside every day.”  Staff were then asked to share a testimonial or example from their own experience that could be used in future outreach efforts. By the end of the day, attendees, volunteers, presenters, and participants alike experienced a sense of renewed commitment to the task at hand… and to the pursuit of life without limits for all.
