Spotlighting These Caring People and Their Service to the Community Through UCP

Rebecca Plank

Rebecca Plank

Rebecca Plank, a 27 year old, has found her niche in life: as an aspiring Interior Designer. A 2006 Shippensburg Art graduate who is pursuing a degree in Interior Design from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Rebecca serves as a frequent program volunteer at the Branch Creek Neighbors Adult Day Program facility. She is able to use her passion for art, as well as her compassionate heart, to work alongside the program participants in creating something that is not only beautiful to look at, but has a purpose as artwork. Rebecca first became involved with UCP as a result of her brother Russell’s participation in the Branch Creek Neighbors program. She initially approached UCP about helping design the interior space when “the Creek” (as she affectionately refers to the program) moved into a central location in downtown Shippensburg. For over six months, she was involved on a daily basis. Once the decision was made to open an on-site respite program, she developed a cohesive plan for this mixed use space. Her design goal was to create a comfortable home-like environment that focused on nature intertwining with the industrial elements of the existing building. Rebecca plans to continue volunteering for the Creek and is interested in doing some fundraising, which will allow her to pursue some more high-end art projects with the participants.
