The Burkley family has been receiving services from UCP Central PA for several years: inclusive preschool at the Capital Area Children's Center, medical equipment through Changing Hands, and family activities, support, and medical advocacy through Family Support Services.
Andrew's family shared the following about their UCP experience:
When your child receives a Cerebral Palsy diagnosis, the doctor does not hand you an instruction manual on how to deal with the emotional stress and physical challenges you will face as your child grows. The equipment you'll need, the maze of health care decisions, the IEP meetings are all things that parents are just expected to navigate alone. And that's where UCP comes in.
As a family, we still struggle to make sure that our son is getting the care he needs and that we are doing everything in our power to provide him the best life possible. Thanks to the support of UCP, we know we are. UCP's caring staff, their attention to our needs and the learning opportunities they've presented to us (and to our son) have been unexpected blessings for us.
From matching us with available equipment to connecting us with cutting edge medical professionals and listening to us during very tough times, UCP has helped us manage Andrew's diagnosis better than anyone else could.
We are proud to call UCP a friend and a partner in making life better for our son, and for all children with this disability. Together, we know that we can make a difference.
