Increase Your Independence Through the Power of Assistive Technology

The textbook definition of assistive technology (AT) is any device or service that increases, maintains, or improves the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. A more meaningful description is any of a series of supports that not only make everyday living easier for the user; they make impossible tasks possible.

Assistive Technology

It could be something as simple as a reacher, which gives a senior living alone access to out of reach spaces. Or it could be an adapted game that provides hours of fun for a child. It could be voice-activated software that enables a recently paralyzed man to continue to operate his computer. Or it could be something as life-changing as a chair lift system that provides mobility throughout the home. Whatever “it” is that can help you live more independently, at home, at work, at school or at play… that’s the goal of assistive technology (AT).

Whether you’ve got a need for assistive technology… have equipment to donate… or just want to learn more, UCP’s AT Specialist can help.
